Data methodology
Useful numbers, with a clear trail back to the source.
EV Matchup currently covers 127 Australian EV models across 47 brands. We prioritise primary sources and identify estimates so buyers can understand what they are comparing.
1. Vehicle and variant structure
A model is listed once in the catalogue, with Australian variants or grades available inside the selector. Grade-specific data is used where published. When a figure applies to the whole model range or varies by option, EV Matchup shows a range or a clear qualification rather than inventing precision.
2. Prices
We check Australian manufacturer pages, configurators, downloadable price lists and offer terms. “From” prices use the lowest listed eligible grade. Limited offers and drive-away campaigns are labelled where practical and should always be confirmed before ordering.
3. Drive-away calculations
When no official drive-away price is published, the estimate combines the listed vehicle price, state or territory duty, a representative registration and compulsory-insurance amount, and $1,500 assumed dealer delivery. Amounts are rounded and do not account for every individual concession or postcode.
4. Range, battery and charging
Published Australian figures are preferred. EV Matchup keeps the stated test standard where known because WLTP, NEDC and ADR values are not interchangeable. Charging estimates use usable battery capacity and the vehicle’s stated maximum AC or DC charging performance; real charging follows a curve and can be slower.
5. Safety
ANCAP ratings are matched by model, market, build date and applicable variant where possible. The rating year matters because assessment requirements change. The official ANCAP safety-rating database is the primary rating source.
6. Photographs
We prioritise official manufacturer media or model pages. A grade-specific image is used when available. Colours, wheels, trim and equipment can differ from Australian production vehicles, so photographs are illustrative unless expressly identified as the exact Australian grade.
7. Dealership information
Dealer locations are checked against manufacturer locators and official dealership websites. Contact routing follows this order:
- A verified, dealer-specific public sales email.
- A published dealership sales phone number.
- The official dealership contact page or manufacturer locator.
Manufacturer press, marketing, recruitment and general-support inboxes are not treated as dealership lead addresses. A researched email is not activated for direct lead delivery until the dealership confirms it accepts third-party new-vehicle enquiries.
8. Editorial comparisons and rankings
Shortlists consider the published data and practical buyer needs described in the article. They are editorial judgements, not a guarantee that one vehicle is suitable for every buyer. Paid placement does not currently determine rankings. Any future sponsored placement will be clearly labelled.
9. Review and correction process
EV prices, model ranges and dealership networks move quickly. We review information when manufacturers announce changes and prioritise popular models and material price or safety updates. Each correction is checked against the strongest available source before publication.
To flag a possible error, use the contact form and include the model, grade, field and official source. A correction request does not guarantee a change if the supporting evidence cannot be verified.
